    It’s that time in your life when you are searching for a new home. Whether you’re a new home buyer or a seasoned pro on your 3rd home, it doesn’t get any easier. For first-time buyers, there are many aspects to consider when buying a house. The idea itself is the easiest; in fact, it’s what will give you the energy, hope and perseverance in the process. The biggest fear is finding something you love and can’t commit to the price or timing of the purchase. Yes, money is extremely emotional; there is no question. It becomes daunting looking at how much money you don’t have or are willing to put down on something you don’t even know you will enjoy. For people who have been through the buying process, it is usually a mix of emotions, from doubts, excitement, second thoughts, and years of stress. But seeing where it got you over the years brings peace that it was worth it. It was worth the financial struggle to raise a family and spend time together, laughing, playing, eating, and being together with friends and family. With these thoughts, any financial burdens seem to melt away. So, we know why we want to buy a home that comes easy, whether it’s a first home, an upgrade or an investment.

Where do we go from here?

Nothing has changed in a millennium, so are we learning?  It is 2025. Happy New Year to everyone, and I think it is time we look at things a bit differently. There is nothing quite like a house these days; there is no other purchase in your life like it, with all its complexities. Complexity: I mean the questions we tend to want to ask to the ones we don’t know or want to ask. A property, whether it is a small studio apartment or a large 5000sq ft estate, is a living entity; yes, that is right, it is always moving and doing something; it is what keeps us safe, covered and a sense of belonging, aka “home”. But with so many moving parts, we must watch many things. You can call this place home, so does it deserve the care? It deserves the care so it can give back financially and comfortable living.  When it’s not working, things can go wrong. Some parts get broken, out of date or fall apart. This is what makes it a living entity. It doesn’t seem fair.  You put your life savings into something and continue to invest time and money, but it will always need nurturing, just like anything that has growth (likewise with children and plants) and more investment.

 

Is there too many options now?

Listening to all of this it makes you want to rent, ha-ha. The light at the end of the tunnel can be very gratifying; it can increase wealth, help raise a family, and give you a great kickstart to retirement. So, let’s look at things differently to take some of the weight off and get into more of the good stuff. The distance between a bad investment and a good one can be because of not doing your homework. We forget that we have so many resources and skilled people to help us make smart decisions when buying a home. This is a seriously big purchase in your life and, for many, the biggest. Spend the time working with people who know houses better than anyone; that means asking the right questions. Yes, you may have to chat with contractors, electricians, plumbers, landscapers, designers, and engineers, but to give you the right information goes a long way. Great realtors know this. It doesn’t matter whether you're looking for a property or considering selling it; if you're prepared with the right resources, it will become a very intelligent choice.
